Lazy days off of work make for perfect movie watching time. I decided to go with a film that I've been meaning to watch forever; Submarine (dir. Richard Ayoade). I remember seeing stills from the movie (again, this is totally how I choose what to watch any given day) and I was instantly intrigued by the style and production design. The film blends a coming of age story with a teen boy's endearing quest to save his parents marriage from total collapse.

October Horror-Fest
October is one of my favourite times of the year, mostly in anticipation for Halloween. Halloween is favourite "holiday" and I spend weeks prepping elaborate costumes for it. I also quite enjoy using my spare time beforehand brushing up on my favourite cinematic genre -- Horror! I just got laid off from my crappy data entry job so I've been making an effort to watch a bunch of classics that I have neglected amongst newer titles. So far I have watched:
1. Phantasm (1979)
2. Session 9 (2001)
3. Stake Land (2010) - highly recommended, I loved this!
4. Inferno (1980)
5. A few episodes of the upcoming series American Horror Story (2011)
I plan on watching a lot of other films and I will use this post to sort of track my progress throughout the month.

Inspired: Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky (2009)
Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky is a beautiful film based on a compelling real life story of love and betrayal that happened in the 1920s. The film has an absolutely gorgeous visual style with a palette reminiscent of Chanel's classic collections; black, white and beige. The film also plays with different compositional elements, such as bold symmetry, and interesting neo-noir lighting techniques.
